January 2022 Newsletter

Happy New Year!

With these words we are reminded that something has changed in time. The old year has given way to a new.

We traditionally make resolutions ranging from Bible reading to exercise. While it is challenging to remain committed, accountability can help.

You were challenged Sunday to consider a congregational resolution: “Arise and Shine!”

Isaiah 60:1

Arise, shine, for your light has come,
and the glory of the Lord has risen upon you.

I can imagine the prophet Isaiah saying these words to encourage himself as well as the people of Israel. On the day I wrote this, I woke feeling anxious for nothing in particular…. just anxious. The people of Israel heard Isaiah’s words in the midst of uncertainty, strife, national discord, and a bleak looking future. We have much to be worried about yet God’s Word tells us repeatedly to – “not fear, be not anxious, consider how God cares for the lilies of the field and takes care of the birds of the air, ask and you shall receive and more.”

Like you, I need to be reminded to speak words of praise magnifying our God who is worthy of worship. When I proclaim the promises voiced in Isaiah and elsewhere, I do more than put worry to rest. I move forward into the glorious future God has prepared for the Church and this congregation.

Join with me this year in joyfully, confidently and boldly answering the call first given to the people God chose to bear the promised Messiah. Arise and shine and give God the Glory!

Brother David
