Isaiah 58:6 “Is not this the fast that I choose: to loose the bonds of wickedness, to undo the straps of the yoke, to let the oppressed go free, and to break every yoke?” ESV
July 4th falls on a Sunday this year. Celebrating our nations independence on Sunday, the day of our Lord’s Resurrection is appropriate. Sunday is God’s declaration of victory through Jesus over sin and death. We are no longer held captive to Satan’s bondage. Not even death can separate us from the love of Christ!
The 4th of July is often called Independence Day even though freedom from the tyranny of the British empire came 7 years later after 6,800 Americans and 5,500 British were killed in battle. One point 8 percent of the US population died on the battlefield. This is equivalent to 60,000 deaths today.
In a sense our Nation was free upon declaring independence. Our ancestors fought as people knowing they were made in the image of God. God is gloriously free! The joy of the Lord is known because we are free in Christ.
Our Nation was founded on the declaration that our status before God is that of a free person with certain inalienable rights that no one has the authority to take away.
The authority of our ancestors’ declaration of independence rests upon the Word of God, not human enlightenment. No one has the right to remove what God has given. It is foolish to live as a servant when you are a child of the Most High King.
Enjoy the freedom God has given you! Cherish and defend it for yourself and those yet to be born.
Free in Christ,
Brother David
